El deseo de modificar artificialmente la conciencia es un hecho tan antiguo como la humanidad pero no es hasta muy recientemente cuando surge el interés científico y social entorno a la relación entre enfermedad mental y drogas. En las últimas décadas esta preocupación se ha avivado vistos los efectos devastadores del consumo de algunas sustancia, la aparición de nuevas drogas y a los avances en la organización del saber en torno a la psicopatología. Entrar a fondo en el tema ser (...) ía largo, supondría exponer las definiciones y límites de los conceptos "enfermedad mental" y "toxicomanía" así como las interacciones entre ambos problemas que dan como resultado complejos entrecruzamientos intercmbios. The pandemic has clearly affected higher education institutions through the transition of its learning modality to online. Furthermore, this study investigates the relationship between social support and burnout among college students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing descriptive-correlational design, the result of the statistical analysis indicated that social support and academic burnout has a significant relationship (r=0.158). Implications of the study were discussed and recommendations for future research were suggested.

The principal purpose of this text is to show that Michel Henry’s radicalization ofphenomenology conduces to a problematic interpretation of the world and human desire, and to proposea solution to the problem from the philosophy of Augustine of Hippo. If for Henry, Life is absoluteimmanence, for Augustine it is also extasis. If for the first desire has to be reduced to mere immanence,for the later this desire (appetitus) is one of the ways in which man can encounter the Absolute.

Information can be public among a group. Whether or not information is public matters, for example, for accounts of interdependent rational choice, of communication, and of joint intention. A standard analysis of public information identifies it with (some variant of) common belief. The latter notion is stipulatively defined as an infinite conjunction: for p to be commonly believed is for it to believed by all members of a group, for all members to believe that all members believe it, and so (...) forth. This analysis is often presupposed without much argument in philosophy. Theoretical entrenchment or intuitions about cases might give some traction on the question, but give little insight about why the identification holds, if it does. The strategy of this paper is to characterize a practical-normative role for information being public, and show that the only things that play that role are (variants of) common belief as stipulatively characterized. In more detail: a functional role for “taking a proposition for granted” in non-isolated decision making is characterized. I then present some minimal conditions under which such an attitude is correctly held. The key assumption links this attitude to beliefs about what is public. From minimal a priori principles, we can argue that a proposition being public among a group entails common commitment to believe among that group. Later sections explore partial converses to this result, the factivity of publicity and publicity from the perspective of outsiders to the group, and objections to the aprioricity of the result deriving from a posteriori existential presuppositions. Clinical ethics refers to an emerging field in clinical medicine that focuses on the process of ethical decision-making in a clinicalsetting. It has developed as a result of a growing awareness that modern medicine – characterized by technological progress, culturaldiversity and social challenges – is posing a range of new “ethical dilemmas” that medical science alone cannot solve. For thisreason, clinical ethics is often linked to “ethics consultation,” which consists of services provided by an individual ethicist, ethicsteam or committee to (...) address the ethical issues involved in a specific clinical case. Although clinical ethics developed in the beginningmainly as a methodological analysis to arrive at a justification for clinical ethical decisions, it quickly has become clear thatthe difficulty in clinical decision-making is only one aspect of wider ethical problems pertaining to the doctor-patient relationshipas a whole and, most likely, to the core value of the medical profession. The principles method is usually presented as the mostpopular methodological approach to an analysis of clinical cases. However, strong criticism of this model has been voiced, and otheralternative approaches are referred to, such as the casuistry model. Recently, significant contributions have been made by narrativemedicine and virtue ethics. According to these methodologies, sound anthropology and a good relationship with the sick person arekey elements required of any person engaged in medical practice who aims to be genuinely appropriate from an ethical perspective. Este artigo faz um debate conceptual de terrorismo, extremismo, radicalismo e radicalização com o objectivo de produzir distinções que enriqueçam o debate teórico sobre o fenómeno terrorista, pois assume que há armadilhas retóricas que é preciso esclarecer e ultrapassar para melhorar o debate e teorização sobre o terrorismo. Para o efeito, a principal metodologia usada foi uma abordagem qualitativa, com apoio das técnicas bibliográfica e documental, através das quais foi consultada a principal literatura sobre os conceitos, bem como documentos de (...) instituições e organizações nacionais e internacionais que lidam com os fenómenos em análise. A principal conclusão produzida é de que estes quatro conceitos são distintos entre si porquanto o terrorismo é essencialmente uma acção violenta levada a cabo por indivíduos, grupos, ou até mesmo pelos Estados, contra determinados alvos civis com a pretensão de atingir uma audiência maior do que as vítimas imediatas, visando um objectivo político determinado; por sua vez, o extremismo refere-se à uma intolerância violenta ou não violenta aos outros baseada na convicção da assertividade das suas crenças e consequente tentativa de coartar a liberdade de pensar e agir dos demais; enquanto o radicalismo representa um pensamento progressista que consiste na luta por direitos e liberdades de grupos tradicionalmente excluídos e; finalmente, a radicalização é o processo pelo qual um indivíduo passa até a decisão de cometer actos terroristas. Com isso, o extremismo insere-se no processo de radicalização e o terrorismo é uma acção consequente da radicalização. O radicalismo é um conceito mais distante dos demais pela sua conotação positiva na transformação social. (shrink)

En este trabajo intentaré mostrar que, de acuerdo con Agustín de Hipona –y a diferencia de una cierta lectura relativamente clásica de Pascal–, el deseo puede ser el comienzo de la relación del hombre con el Absoluto. Para ello divido el texto en cuatro partes: primero, describo la situación existencial primordial de la que nace el deseo, la inquietud. Después, describo el doble despliegue del deseo: amor o concupiscencia, según objeto e inclinación. En tercer lugar, intento describir los tipos de (...) concupiscencias y sus paralelismos en ambos autores. Concluyo mostrando la importancia de la costumbre en la constitución del deseo. (shrink)

This work focuses on the role that music has in the constitution of the World as a philosophical category. I explore the work of Eugenio Trías and Augustine of Hippo, and the way both philosophers have conceptualized music in relation to the constitution of the time of the World. For Trías music is not about the World but about its limits and, in that way, gives it a form. For Augustine music relates man to universe’s ordo , liberating him from (...) mundane distentio animi and helping him to give sense to a World that gives itself as finite. (shrink)

Shared Decision-Making is a widely accepted model of the physician–patient relationship providing an ethical environment in which physician beneficence and patient autonomy are respected. It acknowledges the moral responsibility of physician and patient by promoting a deliberative collaboration in which their individual expertise—complementary in nature, equal in importance—is emphasized, and personal values and preferences respected. Its goal coincides with Pellegrino and Thomasma’s proximate end of medicine, that is, a technically correct and morally good healing decision for and with a particular (...) patient. We argue that by perfecting the intellectual ability to apprehend the complexity of clinical situations, and through a perfection of the application of the first principles of practical reason, prudence is able to point toward the right and good shared medical decision. A prudent shared medical decision is therefore always in keeping with the kind of person the physician and the patient have chosen to be. (shrink)

The received translation and interpretation of many of the technical terms current in the textile industry of the Roman Empire are inaccurate, because lexicographers have either fought shy of being precise, or have thought that they recognized in the ancient world technical processes which originated at a much later date. The evidence is often equivocal or insufficient, but may still yield details that have been overlooked. The textile expression scutulatus, to take an example, deserves more attention than Blümner has devoted (...) to it. When it refers to the appearance of a garment, Lewis and Short, s.v. scutulatus, translate ‘diamond or lozenge-shaped, checkered’. It seems worth while to attempt a more precise translation, and, if possible, to estimate the significance in context of the goods so designated. (shrink)

La figura de Solón es crucial en el desarrollo del pensamiento político griego. Este fue capaz de desarrollar una teoría política extraída a partir de su experiencia de gobierno, de su análisis de la realidad social y de su actuación como arconte con amplios poderes en una situación crítica durante los inicios del siglo seis a. e. c. Tomando esto como punto de partida, el propósito de este trabajo es presentar unas conclusiones con relación al análisis que Solón realiza de (...) las circunstancias históricas y sociales en las que desempeñó su responsabilidad política. El mismo le llevó a desarrollar unas ideas que configuraron su teoría política, quizá la primera en la historia del pensamiento, que sirvió para fundamentar sus leyes y justificar sus decisiones como personaje público y responsable del gobierno de Atenas. Todo ello está recogido en sus poemas y en los testimonios posteriores que poseemos de él. (shrink)

Desde sus inicios, la globalización se ha manifestado como un acontecimiento de alcance extraordinario, sobre todo para la superación de las distancias de relaciones y valores entre los individuos. La globalización ha ampliado los espacios de reglamentación, pero ha puesto de manifiesto también como la hiperproducción normativa se corresponde con una inadecuación de las normas para solucionar los problemas sociales complejos. De ahí el conflicto o la “contradicción” creciente entre derecho y sociedad, así como la incapacidad del derecho para producir (...) justicia o hacer justicia, en el sentido de colmar la distancia entre los individuos y entre los individuos y las instituciones. La respuesta aparentemente resolutiva de dicha problemática ha venido de la praxis, de la multiplicación de instrumentos mediadores, que parecen poder detener la situación de emergencia generalizada que caracteriza hoy el mundo de la justicia. La mediación es, al mismo tiempo, el resultado de un proceso radical de innovación en la regulación y de gestión de la conflictividad, y una modalidad comunicativa de las nuevas expectativas de justicia social e individual. The author analyses the legal culture of our time trying to make explicit the dynamics that form the basis of the present socio-normative order through an examination of the essential changes in the world of norms and of regulations in general. In particular, the analysis focusses on the structural transformation of law and on the loss of the traditional space-time dimension of regulation in the context of globalization. In the second place, she indicates the changes in the forms of communication (...) such as the fundamental presuppositions from which the problem of the new rights is tackled.
